Children in 2nd and 3rd grade will enjoy this box. The box is also appropriate for younger children who can read chapter books or older children without a lot of exposure to American History.
The box includes a United States Atlas, non-fiction, historical fiction, an activity book, and a final project and assessment based on the U.S. Common Core Standards and Virginia Standards of Learning. Topics include geography, the Colonial Period, Native Americans, Industrialization, and important Americans.
Worksheets in the book include map activities, state reports, illustrations, journaling, charts, question and answer sheets, paragraph writing, and comparisons. We also include a page titled “What your child should know” at the beginning of each section and another titled “Questions to ask your child” at the end of each section. Use these to generate family discussion and debate.
